Happy Birthday to Richard Harris (aka the giuy who originally played dumbledore) and Dame Julie Andrews

Smallfish Hypnotizes Partyphiles

A couple of months back I wrote an article entitled “Where My Party People At” where I was complaining about a lack of real parties and hot events in the metro. I ended the article with a short prayer to the partyphiles gods, hoping that somehow, someway, somebody would fall from the partyphiles clouds and give us some hot-bangin’ parties.

I forgot about that article until, recently, I found that all my hopes and wishes came true with the help of four little fishies (yes, alcohol is their version of water), who decided to form a school (school of fish, get it?) and named themselves Smallfish Productions.

Smallfish Productions is an event-organizing group made up by Marie Braganza, her brother, Dr. Dingo Braganza, friends Bevs Lim, and Mike Sy; and together they have given us some of the hottest parties this year. If you ever felt a hunger for REAL partying, like I did a couple of months back, they have come to answer your prayers!

They started off with a big bang with their first event dubbed: Traffic. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there since I was vacationing outside the country, but judging from their Facebook pictures, it was a blast! I mean, they required guests to come in Red (if they were taken), Yellow (if their dating status was complicated), and Green (if they were single), and I bet your bottom dollar, that was enough to make it a hot-bangin’ party!

For their second event, Confessions: Are You a Sinner or a Saint, they featured DJ Torch playing all the best ‘90s music all night, and yours truly was on the mic giving away hot prizes. It was definitely one for the books, as guests danced the night away, all donned in black and white, while sipping free cocktails (free cocktails were served ‘til midnight).

Their third event, Wave: Beach, Breeze, Booze, was a Kadayawan party by the beach (Garden by the Bay). It was the place to be for this year’s Kadayawan, as all of Davao’s young, hot glitterati were at perfect attendance! They featured DJ Keelo, DJ Maxie Perez from Club Vudu, (Cebu), and once again I hosted the event. This had a whopping attendance of approximately 500 partyphiles, which I’m guessing is ground-breaking in Davao society.

So you couldn’t really blame me for getting uberly-excited when Smallfish contacted me to host their fourth event: Hypnotiq: Burn in your Afterglow. It was held at the Metro Lounge last September 18, and as usual, most of Davao’s glitterati (young, hot partyphiles, who only go to the hottest parties and places. Read: the Paris Hilton’s of the world) were there, partying the night away!

DJ Torch opened the evening with his signature brand of crowd favorites, to get the party started. By the stroke of midnight, the hottest topless DJ from Hey Jude (Boracay), DJ Surf, (who, I must say, is one of the best DJs I have heard recently) started spinning, and the partyphiles went wild! The half-British DJ wowed the crowd with his gorgeous party mixes, and his wonderful song selection (of course the girls didn’t mind that he was topless for most of the evening).

To add to the festive flair, Hypnotiq was a glow in the dark party! Yep, they attached black lights all over Metro Lounge, and asked guests to come in something white, something bright, or something that reflected light. The result: hot partyphiles, all aglow!

And if that wasn’t enough, the small fishes started smearing glow-in-the-dark liquid at friends (and on DJ Surf’s topless body) which started a domino effect. By the end of the night, everyone’s faces were glowing, everyone was laughing at each other, and were all giddy and tipsy (they were too drunk from all the free drinks).

Overall, Hypnotiq was one of the best parties Smallfish Productions has dished out. It was intimate (because it was at the Metro Lounge), festive (thanks to everybody smearing glow-in-the-dark ink all over everybody else. Yes, even complete strangers), musically-impressive (thanks to DJ Torch and DJ Surf), glamorous (thanks to the attendance of Davao’s glitterati, and well, just plain, HOT!

If you ever wondered how it felt to be in partyphiles heaven, Hypnotiq was as close as you could get!

Confession:

I’m really glad Smallfish Productions has taken the lead in bringing back excitement in Davao Partylandia. They have managed to make everyone party like we used to, back in the day: all dressed up, without a tinge of drama!

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for their next event. If you miss out on that one, say goodbye to your partyphiles status!

Pantry Omelet

This evening i cooked an omelet from the stuff that was left in the pantry: Chinese cabbage, Onions, Bell Peppers and Chinese Sausage. Fortunately, it tasted real good. It was kinda sweet (from the sausages) and it was comforting too. It felt hearty, even though I put a lot of veggies. I hope you try this one at home, and enjoy it!

Prepare your ingredients, slice your veggies very thinly so you wouldn't get any huge parts of stalk (from the chinese cabbage) in your omelet
Sautee your chinese sausages in a bit of oil. Make sure not to go overboard with oil since these sausages are really fatty.
Once your sausages are cooked thoroughly, add in your bell peppers.
When your bell peppers are soft, add in your onions and cabbage. I usually season the dish at this stage. I think it also helps the veggies wilt and release moisture (from the salt)
Let the veggies wilt down
And then beat some eggs, season them, and add a little cornstarch (just to give it a little give). Pour it over your veggies.
Once the underside is done, put a plate on top of your skillet, and then flip it over. Slide in your omelet, so the "raw" part gets browned. And your omelet is done! Voila!
Serve this on your next Brunch party, and you are sure to get rave reviews!
Thank You to SOny for my Sony Cybershot w290. I took these pictures with it (gourmet mode). Absolute coolness!

Sikat Quatro

Last Friday, Mix FM had the fourth installment of our talent show dubbed Sikat Quatro. This "Sikat" was, IMHO the BEST Sikat ever!

The crowd was really fun, the stage wasn't chaotic at all, the hosts (including me) had fun, and were more relaxed, the games were soooper fun, and the contestants were soooper funny! And to top it all off, the performers were GREAT! We all had a great time!

Good thing I now have a digicam (thanks to Sony for my new W290 Sony Cybershot) so i snapped a couple of photos (couldn't really be the photog since I was busy as one of the hosts).

The night ended with a couple beers, thanks to Steve Mdinight!

Im uber-excited for Sikat Cinco! crossing my fingers here! :D

That's Wacky and I, for our last-minute rehearsals
That's me letting out a huge yawn, and that's Chris Chase behind me

Our traffic angel, Sol with Wacky. I must say, she looks gorgeous here

MTS was packed that night, thanks to all the hot performers

Here's C-Shifter. They were really, really good. I think they'd make it big real soon. Plus the lead vocalist is GORGEOUS!

Drink of the Week: Tequila Sunrise

If you ever wondered how to make a tequila sunrise, here's what you need:

1 part tequila
parts orange juice
2 teaspoons of gre nadine

Pour tequila in a highball glass with ice, and top with orange juice. Stir. Add grenadine by tilting glass and pouring grenadine down side by flipping the bottle vertically very quickly. The grenadine should go straight to the bottom and then rise up slowly through the drink. Garnish stirrer, straw and cherry-orange.

The New Partyphile Commandments

The new partyphile commandments

The number of partyphiles in the metro is fast-increasing, and everyone seems to be in a party mood all the time. Hot events for the true partyphile have been popping up left and right, and even the airwaves are now bombarded with party hits. Unfortunately, not all party-goers are true partyphiles, and some have forgotten the laws of Partylandia, so here it is again, to remind everyone about the essence of being a partyphile—the new Partyphile Commandments

  1. Thou shall look hot when entering a hot club.
This is one of the most important commandments, unless of course, you want to be like Ugly Betty. Everybody has heard the saying “first impressions last”, and unfortunately, this holds true even more in Partylandia, where anyone and everyone is dissected and taken apart by social-climbing oldies. Yes, sometimes, you feel like you’re under a microscope and you feel the pressure to dress up. Darling, this superficiality won’t end soon. Right now, just follow this commandment.
  2. Thou shall not spend more than 500 bucks each time thou goes out to party.
Real partyphiles do not spend too much, sometimes; they do not spend anything at all. They are popular, charming and likeable. All they need to bring to the table (unlike others, who need to pay for drinks et al) is their wit and charm, and that is enough for any group. People want real partyphiles to be part of their group because they bring the party with them wherever they go; thus the free drinks and even drives home come pouring in.

  1. Thou shall know about the music.

Music is an important element to any party. As a true partyphiles, you should be familiar with the hottest music today, and might want to consider creating an instant play list in your head. Real partyphiles do not just listen to dance music because they want to dance, they imbibe it, they enjoy, they appreciate it, and then... they dance to it.

4. Thou shall not care what others think.
Who cares what lowlifes think? You do not, my dear partyphiles reader. SO scream all you want, dance like you’re crazy, drink all you want, however which way you want to, and never feel the need to explain yourself to anyone else but you.

5. Thou shall dance.
Nothing sucks more than a person in the middle of the crowd who is just standing or sitting there. Dancing is a requisite when you are in a hot bar. If you do not intend to dance, go to one of those “grills” instead. If you seriously have a rhythm problem and think it would be best that you spare the rest of the world from the sight of you trying so desperately to dance, well, bob your head, stomp your feet, jump up and down, whatever it is you choose to do, just move! Nobody wants a stiff partyphiles! Let loose!

6. Thou shall not smell like a bottle of perfume.

No self respecting partyphiles would want to smell like a person, even if s/he is sweating from all the dancing. All partyphiles smell like perfume; and not just any perfume, a hip new scent that is strong enough to last until the wee hours of the morning, but is mild enough that your friends can still talk to you without gagging. And please, if you still use CK1 or Cool Water, I suggest you stop. We don’t need anymore reminders of the 1990s. ‘Nuff said.

7. Thou shall stand out
Wear something outrageous, dance like a fool, give people make-believe strip teases, dance a la Coyote Ugly, or scream at the top of your lungs while dancing in the DJs booth. Whatever it is you choose to do, just do something to stand out. I promise you, your five minutes of “fame” will feel soo good, especially a tough week. There is something about letting lose and grabbing people’s attentions that is soo liberating

8. Thou shall not vomit.

Just because it is totally gross and smelly. There is nothing like vomit to instantly ruin your partyphiles status. When you feel like projectile vomit is in the near future, just stop drinking, stand still, suck on hard candy and tell someone about how you feel. Don’t just puke all over the place. Gross.

If you really feel like hurling out that night’s dinner, rush to the comfort room or, if you can’t make it there, the car park. Just do not, for the life of you, vomit inside the bar. EVER.

9. Thou shall not come to a gimikan alone.

When going out to party, always come with a buddy. Nothing is sadder than a partyphiles by his or her lonesome. You either give off the idea that you are looking for someone to take home for the night (which isn’t really a good way of presenting yourself. Usually people hide their motives first, try subtlety, dear partyphiles) or that you are just a lonely, friend-less person. Either way, its not so good.
The saying “the more the merrier” holds true in Partylandia.

10. Break all the rules.

Maybe even these commandments and you are sure to have fun, fun, fun!
