Playing mobile games with your friends just got a little more vocal. Sing Something is like a combination of Draw Something and Karaoke — it’s a social singing game that has you sing a song from a selected category, and your friends try to guess what tune you were trying to belt out.

Summer Pool Party Dos and Donts

This Friday, June 1, Confessions of a Partyphile is conquering new territory by throwing its first-ever pool party. Burn: The Summer-Ender Sunset Party. Happening at the poolside of Marco Polo Davao, this party will hopefully end the season of the sun with enough oomph to keep people talking until the next Confessions of a Partyphile event. However, being in a new venue and a totally different atmosphere means that people must act to roll with the whole vibe of the event. For natural partyphiles, switching from party personas to fit the theme is a cinch, but for newbie partyphiles, discovering how to act in a laid back poolside party may not be as easy. Thus we present to you the do’s and don’ts of pool parties.

Do: Maintain a carefree attitude and a laid-back vibe. Remember, this is a pool party. Anything intense wouldn’t be appreciated. Thus, extreme make-up, extreme-flirting, extreme-drinking, and extreme-rowdiness may not be as welcome as in a club setting.

Don’t: Push your friends into the pool. First of all, it gives the host a mini heart attack. Secondly, you may ruin stuff in the process. Throwing an unknowing friend into a pool may destroy a cell phone kept in his pocket, a perfect pack of fresh cigarettes, wads of cash, a leather wallet, or his waning pride. Plus, it’s very High School. If you can, please abstain from any poolside horsing.

Do: Try to make new friends. That is essentially one of the main purposes for partying. Part of the fun in attending events and parties is meeting new people. Whether to expand your network, clout, or your social circle; it is always an exciting activity to meet new friends. So go on and mingle with other people. Don’t stay in your own little secluded area with your friends. Try to make some small talk with everyone you come across at the party.

Don’t: Drown in the pool. The last thing you would want to happen is to drown in the pool because you are too drunk. I know it may seem silly to have this on the list but please trust me when I say some people need this friendly reminder.

Do: Come up to the host. Any host would appreciate their guests coming up to them for small talk. It builds rapport and gives the host a sense of how the crowd is enjoying the party.

Don’t: Come in jeans. Come on! It’s a pool party. Although I am not one for strictly implementing a dress code during my events (because it just puts everyone in a flurry to find the perfect outfit) I think poolside party-wear shouldn’t involve jeans. Why?

Do: Handle your drinks well. Alright, alright. I know my parties are infamous for serving really strong cocktails disguised by sweet flavours but hear me out. No matter how hard the drink, or how strong the alcohol, it is always a must that you try to hold it in as well as you can. Drink only as much as you can handle and please drink some water in between glasses of alcohol. This is extra-important when in a pool party because a lot more accidents can happen by the pool.

Don’t: Play too rough. I know some of my partyphile guests find it fun to break stuff and push people around; but it isn’t very attractive and makes everybody else uncomfortable. Seriously, you should have left all those in pre-school.

Do: Try to be respectful to others. Pool parties and skimpy clothes always come hand-in-hand. This does not give you permission to stare at people; although I am sure it may be very difficult to help. Just try your best to keep your urges contained and be content with a few stolen glances unless you want other party attendees to get freaked out.

DJ Callum's Heatsroke

You are in the middle of the dance floor. You forget everything else that is going on and start to move your feet to the beat. You forget that everyone else can see you; that everyone else has an opinion about you; and you simply stop everything and dance. You forget that you have work the next day, that you have a family to come home to, or a Twitter account to update. You let it all out and give in to the seduction of sound. You jump, you scream, you laugh, and you even wink at that cutie. Suddenly, you are caught in a state of party. You don’t consider anybody else. Heck, you do not even consider yourself. In fact, you consider nothing. Think about nothing. Analyze nothing. Being in a state of party means that your brain has stopped, and that your feet have taken over. And as you jump up and down while you raise your arms in the air; you start to understand that THIS is what partying feels like.

And for most partyphiles I know, this realization happened last May 19, 2012 at DC Fahrenheit for Poshbox Event Solutions’ first party ever: Heatstroke featuring Manila’s ‘it’ boy, DJ Callum David a.k.a. Vinimal. Heatstroke was, dare I say, the hottest party of the season. And no, this is not a biased opinion even though I hosted the event. I seriously think that the organizers were successful in executing everything that they intended to.

Although we are all aware that Fahrenheit isn’t exactly what comes to mind when talking about chichi events, which was a cause of concern for me, Poshbox managed to bling out the otherwise ho-hum interiors of the club enough to make me forget where I was. The interiors were classy, exciting, young, and fresh. It was very streamlined and refined; nothing over the top or too tongue-in-cheek. With a few yards of cloth and a whole lot of lights, DC Fahrenheit was transformed into Partyphile Paradise for a night. And that was only fitting as the crème de la crème of young Davao society were in attendance.

The program followed a simple, streamlined plan as well. One of the resident DJs for Fahrenheit started the ball rolling followed by one of the best DJs I’ve heard recently, DJ Ryan, whom I have never seen in action until this party. He was joined by the Tagahabi Drumbeaters as they pounded their percussions to the beat of the tracks that DJ Ryan spewed out. The idea was novel; the music it made was kitschy but very entertaining. All in all, it was a little added extra oomph before the main event.

Prior to the main act, I hosted several quick games to get the crowd pumped. Prizes were given away by Globe Telecom, Pyesta KTV, Hairs and Nails, Envy Me, and other sponsors. Once we got the crowd’s interest we then welcomed the man of the night: DJ Callum.

The model/socialite/DJ was impressive; he actually played his whole set without a monitor, laptop, or any of those fancy stuff that makes DJ-ing easier. He did it the old school way: with just his CDs, (audio) monitor, and the sound controls. This back-to-basics approach was rather interesting for a guy who made a name for himself through glamorous modelling. He dished out some of the hottest current favorites alongside old school tracks and even threw in some obscurities in the mix. The result: a hard hitting set that stretched for three long hours; an hour longer than agreed upon by the DJ and organizers. This was testament to how much Callum enjoyed the Davao crowd. And if you aren’t convinced that this noted Manila DJ actually appreciated the local crowd, he even tweeted “Ok, seriously I think that was the craziest gig of my life. I love you Davao!” the next day. So maybe finally, our Northern counterparts are realizing how vivacious the local Partyphile crowd is.

All in all, the event was a success. DJ Callum was amazing, his opening acts were equally impressive, the interiors were sophisticated, and the crowd was banging. Here’s to hoping we get even more events from Poshbox.

Sole Style

Standing out. That is one goal of most partyphiles. Admittedly, it is quite easy to get lost in a sea of like-minded people who happen to talk, think, and spend alike; making it even more novel to stick out like a sore thumb. However, it seems like the temptress that is ‘personal style’ is getting back in the forefront as more and more local partyphiles indulge in vintage, DIY, or customized pieces. Thus, I present to you another option for some late-night fashion: Custom-made shoes.

Here’s the culprit: Gab Delos Santos, the maven behind Fabulosa Finds on Facebook. Radio DJ on 105.9 Mix FM by evening, artiste extraordinaire by dawn.

The product: customizable shoes that are perfect to wear for partying and are seemingly one of the hottest modes of self expression these days.

Imagine owning a pair of shoes that nobody else has. Imagine it being an extension of your own style. Imagine wearing a pair that somehow acts as a badge of honour for anything you stand for. Imagine having the pair of shoes you’ve always wanted. Seriously, it doesn’t have to be that deep. The concept is simple. You give Gab your sneakers, espadrilles, or even high heels; give her your design concept, and she paints them for you for a measly price that ranges between four hundred moolahs to six hundred ba-dong-dongs. Is it worth the price? Of course.

For less than a thousand, you get to show off your individuality and allow your feet to do all the talking. And in the Partyphile World where dance floor happenings matter as much as what you actually arrive on the dace floor wearing; you should seriously put more consideration into your shoes.

So pick out a design, any design, and add Fabulosa Finds on Facebook.

Drink of the Week: Lemon Mint Fizz

This recipe is a more refined version to the traditional Mojito; one that does away with all those annoying pieces of mint leaves that just make the whole cocktail-drinking experience a hassle. Here's how you make this equally refreshing cocktail:

Create a Lemon-Mint Syrup:

In a saucepan simmer 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice, two tablespoons of water, some lemon rind, and ten mint leaves. After fifteen minutes, turn the heat off and leave the syrup to rest for another fifteen minutes. Once cooled, run the liquid through a sieve to remove all the leaves. Once cooled and sieved, you may then use the syrup for the cocktail.

Cocktail:

In a glass, combine

  • two tablespoons of the Lemon Mint Syrup
  • a shot of Dark Rum
  • 3 ice cubes
  • fill to the brim with some club soda

INQUIRER.NET: PROVOCATIVE LADY GAGA ALLOWED 2ND MANILA SHOW

MANILA, Philippines— Lady Gaga will be allowed to hold a second concert in Manila on Tuesday night after state censors ruled her “provocative” act was within legal bounds, a Pasay City Mayor Antonino Calixto said.
Calixto said a team he sent to monitor the first night of the concert on Monday found nothing wrong with the event.
“Based on the report of the inspection team I sent to the Lady Gaga concert last night, we find no violations of the special conditions of the Special Permit we issued last May 16 to the promoters of the concert, Ovation Productions,” Calixto said.
There was also no nudity or holy symbols used in an improper context, despite some “admittedly provocative” statements and choreography, which was deemed still “part of an artist’s expressions” protected by the Constitution.
“Therefore, the City Government of Pasay sees no compelling or legal reason to disallow the second concert from proceeding,” Calixto said.

Jessica Sanchez Top 3 Song Choices/ Performances

Here are Jessica Sanchez' songs/performances for American Idol Season 11 top 3.

Here, jessica Sanchez tackles Mariah Carey's My All

On her second performance, Jessica takes on Aerosmith's mega hit I Dont Wanna Miss a Thing

Finally, Jessica performs a track from the Jackson 5 which was also done by Mariah Carey in 1992. I'll Be There was a number one hit for both Jackson 5 and Carey, will it help Bebe Chez reach the top?

What can you say about these performances?

Mayhem

For some people, May 5 is just another day. For others, it marks a very special Holiday: Cinco De Mayo. For Davaoeno partyphiles, it meant another reason to party.

And that was just what we did as we attempted to celebrate a foreign holiday in a familiar way in Confessions of a Partyphile’s Mayhem: The Patron Tequila Cinco de Mayo Party. So what went down during this hot union of sexy people and seductive Tequila? Here’s the dish.

Marco Polo Davao, the usual venue for the Confessions of a Partyphile party series, was pimped to look like a Mexican Cantina to celebrate Cinco de Mayo; a Mexican Holiday that was said to turn bad spirits away.

I don’t know about turning bad ones away, but it definitely attracted the good kind of spirit; the spirit we enjoy drinking; the spirit we call: Patron Tequila. We all know how good Patron Tequila is, and there is no denying its mass appeal, but to make things even more special, Patron Tequila gave away premium gift items, free bottles of Patron, and was the main ingredient for the free bottomless margaritas that were served the whole night. And because Marco Polo Davao loves the Partyphile crowd, they even threw in a buffet spread of Fajitas, Tacos, Quesadillas, and other Mexican gustatory faves.

To make the party even more exciting, the controversial DJ Gary spewed out some of the most popular Latin/Salsa inspired Dance Music mish-mashed with the hottest of Commercial House.

Of course, no Confessions of a Partyphile party would be complete without drinking games. For Mayhem, there were two main games. The first one was pretty simple. The master mixologists made Patron Tequila bombs (four for each of the three female contestants) which the contestant had to consume. The first one who consumed all four shots won a bottle of gorgeous Patron X.O. This game was won by no other than former Vice-Presidential daughter Kat de Castro who gamely joined the contest as she enthusiastically dove in to her first Confessions of a Partyphile experience.

The second game, Black Out or Get Out, is slowly turning into stuff of legends. Remember, the last time we played this game, one of the contestants landed straight in the ICU of some hospital. He passed out at the 21st shot. This time however, we threw in extra prizes if the contestant beat the 21 shot record. I cant go into the details of the game but I’d like to say congratulations to Ron (surname withheld by request, because he’s cool that way) for winning Black Out or Get Out and setting a new record of 26 shots. I know, it’s crazy.

All in all, Mayhem was definitely an exciting event. Between the Cinco de Mayo vibe and the overflow of Patron; how can it not be? If you missed it, you will just have to keep on guessing. The good news is there’s another Confessions of a Partyphile event happening this June 2 at the poolside of Marco Polo Davao. Be there if you want to end your summer with a bang.

Summer Fling Dos and Donts

A summer fling, they say, is the best summer accessory; it is the best way to make a summer memorable and much more fun. Although some people bash it for being too forward, as it inevitably involves wanton sex, a lot of people also enjoy it for being hassle- and drama- free. And therein lays the allure of a summer fling. Like most relationships, a summer fling involves two people who are attracted to each other and probably even appreciate each other. Unlike most relationships, it can not involve jealousy, genuine love, commitment, or setting rules and creating boundaries.

However, a summer fling can get really tricky. In the strictest form of it, love is not allowed to commence and extending the relationship after the season of the sun is never really an option. The thing is, unlike real relationships, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to summer flings.

If you want to indulge in a sexy summer fling this season, here are some of the Do’s and Don’ts to observe.

DO: If you do not have a summer fling prospect yet, it is a great idea to do something that would expose you to new people like taking classes or summer jobs. This will give you an opportunity to meet new people in a setting that is very temporary (like the perfect summer fling).

DON’T: Look for summer flings in the wrong places. What would count as a wrong place? Places that you frequent; especially the work place, gym, or church. Remember, you would want to forget about your fling once summer ends, so seeing the person too often would defeat the purpose.

DO: Look for a summer fling while on vacation. Your vacation comes with a definite end-date, and this would require your summer fling to end once you get back home. The good news is that if you indulge in a summer fling while on vacation, the other party would understand that the relationship is anything but permanent.

DO: Stay protected.

DON’T: Get pregnant or impregnate your partner. This will obviously destroy the fantasy of a short-lived fling.

DON’T: Choosing blindly is not a good way to approach summer flings. In the end, a summer fling is still some sort of relationship albeit one that will not last long. You would still need to screen the person for any negative attributes (especially possessiveness) or for any disease (especially STDs).

DO: Use your fling to consume your time. When it all boils down to it, you want a summer fling because the season bores you as you crave for more action and adventure. Plan adventurous dates out of town with your summer fling or do something exciting together like taking up an extreme sport.

DON’T: Plan your (summer) life around your summer fling. Doing this is just plain uncool and inappropriate for a summer fling. You should make yourself available to your summer fling when you are available. Moving your appointments and engagements to go on a date with your summer fling is just crazy and seems too much like a real relationship.

DO: Clue your summer fling in about your plans. Tell him/her that you do not want a real relationship and that you are in a stage where you just want to have fun without commitment.

DON’T: Tell them straight out that they are a summer fling. That’s just tacky. Let them figure it out for themselves.

DO: Go with the flow. Just enjoy how the fling is and how you interact with each other. Remember that the point of having a summer fling is for the both of you to have fun. So do not be too serious about it, and do not think about your status too much.

DON’T: Try to make the summer fling extend into a full blown relationship. Obviously, there is always a possibility of it extending and growing into a real relationship that overcomes the summer constraint of a fling, but if it does not happen naturally, do not try to force it either. Again, the key to summer flings is being casual about everything.

DO: Keep your fling private. Remember that a summer fling is supposed to seem fun, light, carefree, and exciting. Introducing your summer fling to all your friends would just kill the excitement of the moment. Plus, it will make all of your friends assume that you are dating; something that you do not want people to think because you obviously plan to sever the relationship once June steps in.

DON’T: Ever introduce your fling to your parents. That’s just crazy. Duh.

DO: Enjoy the benefits of a summer fling. First, it takes up some of your time, which is always good if you are bored. A summer fling can also bring back your belief in romance after a bad break-up or a series of bad dates.

DON’T: Let your heart get in the way. In cases like these, falling in love is not an option. Think with your heart and not with your head. Enjoy the romance, but keep your guards up.

DO: Something worth remembering. Go on a vacation together and choose your destination wisely. The best destination could be somewhere the both of you have never been to. This will at least give you something to look back on in the future.

DON’T: Divulge very personal information. Psychos are everywhere these days. Remember, the more they know about you, the more dangerous they can be to you. The thing with summer flings is that it happens so fast that sometimes you do not have a chance to get to know the person too well so it helps to keep your guards up.

DO: Be honest with yourself. You have to know if you are ready for a fling or if you want a real relationship at this stage in your life. Confusing one with the other is the worst thing you could do because that is tantamount to setting yourself for some heart ache. Most people who involve themselves with summer flings and end up falling in love and heart broken are those who fail to be honest with themselves even before agreeing to begin a summer rendezvous.

DON’T: Be clingy afterwards. Although it would be tempting to want to spend more time with your fling after summer, it would simply come off as annoying and clingy. When you feel the urge to get back with your summer fling, remind yourself that flings come with expiration dates. What do you do then? Look for another fling to occupy yourself with.

Facebook Pushes Users To Declare Organ Donor Status

Facebook users have long been able to share the most minute details of their lives, from what they're having for lunch to what three-letter word they just played in Words With Friends. Starting Tuesday, they'll be able to share something a little more substantive: whether they are an organ donor.
The move is aimed at using social pressure to increase the ranks of organ donors around the world and, in the words of theNew York Times, is a "rare foray by Facebook into social engineering from social networking, and one with a potentially profound effect."
